*E-mail: *Name: Address: City: Postal Code: *Use Our Message, Or Add Your Own: As a resident of Alberta I am asking you, the elected members of the Alberta Legislative Assembly, to formally request that the Energy Resources Conservation Board reject Petro-Canada's application to drill sour gas wells and construct the associated pipeline in the Pekisko and Sullivan area of Southern Alberta. The area located at the headwaters of Willow Creek and Pekisko Creek between secondary Highway 532 and Highway 541, west of Longview and the Chain Lakes, is one of the last remaining areas of biological integrity in the Canadian Rockies. Surveys and statistical studies confirm that the general public believes that industrial development in this area will compromise its outstanding values as a refuge for wildlife and a source of pure water. The area is a critical watershed supplying the driest areas of southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. An environmental disaster here would be devastating to tens of thousands of Alberta residents, and potentially spill beyond our provincial borders. A sour gas pipeline through this region would have adverse effects on critical eco-tourism activities in the region. The ramifications of increased exploitation of sour gas and industrial degradation in the region go far beyond the short term benefits to Petro-Canada. I petition you to work with your elected colleagues to impose a moratorium on all oil and gas development in this region until a land-use plan is in place that ensures and nurtures the regenerative value of the Southeastern Slopes of the Rockies.
